Representation
As one of the key concepts, this underpins a lot of media analysis as well as being the key focus of our coursework and exam. It refers to the re-presenting of ideas, people, lifestyle, the world back to us though media texts.
Much of what we know, or think we know, has in fact gone through a process of mediation and is thus a very controlled, even created version of reality.
As media students we must always question representations in media texts and examine how, and sometimes why, they have been created.
Textual analysisTextual analysis is the process of breaking down a media text into its various components in order to analyse how meaning has been created. This process can be applied to any media text, weather it is still or moving image, fiction or non-fiction, because every media text has been carefully constructed to convey a particular meaning and therefore can be deconstructed to discover exactly how that meaning has been created.

Champagne would usually be drunk from champagne flutes which are thin and delicate, so we would associate them with women too. Champagne is normally expensive and women like having money spent on them because it makes them feel special and wealthy.
